I agree with you bump in processor speed won't be the key point to entice people to buy a SB MBA - there should be something more, either larger SSD storage for the same amount of money, or connectivity (TB) or better display, or better battery, or all of them. Providing incremental upgrade in speed is obviously not what the so called 'average user' need in an MBA - so many topics there are on the subject on MR.

The cheapest price is free off of The Pirate Bay. If you're unethical.

Be careful. Usually any software updates render it useless. And re-installing it won't help either. Turn auto update off.

I have to say that LIVEFRMNYC's chat makes more sense than the Consumerist's. Fraud would certainly be reason for preventing only online sales. My guess is that the Consumerist got a typically uninformed call center employee.

BTW.... Word and Excel are the only two applications from MS I like... and others are right. Pages and Numbers can't hold a candle to Office... yet.

But I have always found it annoying that many times while trouble shooting or surfing MS web site you're constantly reminded you're not running the latest version of Windows. Subtle marketing I guess? :rolleyes:

This gave me the idea of a combined AppleCare plan. Since Apple is pitching their mobile computing products in three major categories: iPhone, iPad, and MacBook - it would be really cool to offer a combined AC plan for two or all three categories.

Like I have a iPhone and a MacBook - wouldn't it be neat to be able to buy a hybrid plan that would be about $20 to $30 cheaper than buying them individually?

Care to be more specific? It's easier to address your "problems" if you can tell us what kind of hardware you were on, what version of the OS it was running, and what types of things you were trying to do that were "more accessible" in Windows?

Regarding intuitiveness, it's tough to objectively say that one is more intuitive than the other unless you've never used a computer before. You have a prejudice for where things should be from using Windows, as we do from using Macs. You expect things to work the way they do in Windows, and if it doesn't, it's "not intuitive" to you, not necessarily to other people.

People are wrong who think Alacarte would boil down to a handful of channels. The opposite would happen as people would not purchase duplicate channels with similar content. They would choose the one they like best and then choose something more narrowly focused in their interest range.

People are confusing ratings on tv with what people would actually pay for to have brought into their home every month. They are not the same thing.

Ala Carte Channels would cause some channels to go away, on the other hand it would allow other channels to thrive and flourish, because the channels people really wanted to watch would get the most revenue.

I don't want to overpay for the 10 channels I want so 20 other channels I don't care about can continue to exist. Let the marketplace sort it out. It certainly would not actually make channels appeal to a wider demographic, it would probably be the opposite really, as small strong niches carry the day and carry their channels and the programming.

I would be surprised if Apple reverted to having the headphone jack on the bottom of the iPhone next to the charging slot. This seems very suspect to me.

This is an iPod touch we're dealing with here, not an iPhone.

Also, I agree with pmz above. People agreeing with the idea of a capacitative button aren't thinking it through. It would be a real pain in the butt and would quickly have people returning the device. Playing games such as Real Racing 2 (which most people play while placing their thumbs either side of the screen in landscape orientation), for example, would be impossible. :eek:

I'm a bit confused, because, I can't update the EFI ... I strictly followed the instructions. Poweron while holding the power button... then some secondes after speed flashs of the led (I mean stroboscopic) and then just a long BIIIIIP and normal boot after that ...

I have come accross another bug, or it's my dual G5... or Atszyman is spoking me out! :mad: Like he's ever gonna catch up with me!
This is the case: I have three folding widgets running for over a week now, no problem in that week. I have three because I want to monitor someone behind me (Atszyman) and my next overtake in front of me. But when I just looked all three widgets where on Atszyman.

I had this problem too. It must be how it stores the data.

They were out of the 16gb in my area, but went ahead and picked up a 32gb instead. $427 including tax. Not a bad deal at all!

If you ask me, it's pretty clear Apple will update all of its laptops before the holiday season. I personally can't wait to buy a new MB, because my 600 MHz G3 iMac is getting a bit sluggish. My question is this: Will it be a simple CPU upgrade, or will Apple change pricing and/or other hardware (such as HD capacity, RAM, etc.)? Oh, and how long do I have to wait?

They're switching from ASUS to Foxconn so hopefully you'll get a Macbook that doesn't turn off Randomly in the middle of important work.

Of course I can see the other side of this. Writing universal apps is not just a matter of "checking a box" in XCode; despite what I've heard some non-coders say on the subject.

You're absolutely right but as a dev I'd say Adobe is throwing away a large chunk of the Mac market as many users will still have PowerPC machines even when this app comes out. Maybe, Adobe is not after the Mac market at all here. They're really interested in the Windows market but the port to x86 mac was pretty easy.

This might have a lot to do with the huge number of PC users who also have iPhones. Apple won't want to alienate that crowd (likely the majority), and they know that USB 3 is already catching on in a big way in the PC world, while Thunderbolt will have to work hard to catch up.

Kinda agree i could seem myself using a iPad over my MBP when i am not working, having that separation from programming is what appeals to me.

I want to work when i work and not have to think when i am just browsing the web, in reality the iPad covers all my computing needs when i am not programming.

Though it would be lovely to have Aperture on the iPad to cover my hobby needs but it would require some from of local wireless storage access as i don't think many 25MB images would fit on 64GB.
