I just tested a PPC version of halo in time demo and i noticed a 8.31fps boost. Not to signifigant but its progress.

EDIT: i just tried the UB version time demo and there was absoultly no improvement. Going to double check it with cinebench.

If my math was right then that would've been about $2.55 US per gallon. I remember that as well and less.

I remember $1.89 in NY and before I moved to FL and use to visit (2002 and up days) gas down here was like $1.17 a gallon.

Now in Miami gas is about $3.69, down from $3.79 a couple days ago.

That horizon is years away - especially with contracts limiting data transfer to 2GB...and the same contracts applying to LTE, but costing more. The world is ready for cloud computing but the cellular providers will be the hurdle, not the specs on the iPhone 5.

I tend to use all the office apps and go back and fourth depending on needs. The exception is PowerPoint for Windows, I don't use that very much.

Well, I fell for it and bought this baby. It feels pretty nice, it's not my first XO per se (I had one borrowed for 6 months before from a friend) but it's nice to finally have my own and I can start buying a bigger game library.

I'll make it a habit to install games now since it has a big enough hard drive, and it makes a lot less noise when no disc is spinning. It's totally not "whisper-quiet" like they claimed in E3 but it's noticeably quieter than the older one. The fan speed rises periodically the longer you have it turned on, after 2-3 hours of gaming it sounded much closer to the old one. Did you notice the new smaller power brick actually has a fan now? That's what's making most of the sound :/

So far I'm playing RDR and trying to finish some older titles like Oblivion and Fable 2. Got any suggestions? I'm looking at Mass Effect 2.

I read what you said about black and was about to do it. THEN, I pulled out my DS -- which is black, and powered it on, as I "was" going to trade it in, and then noticed I couldn't read the buttons in my lighting. :)

Anyways, I went to Target and got a blue one, but only because of that. I can read the buttons here in my place.

Anyways, i just opened by box and turned it on, so I need to set it up. The included book for this thing is HUGE! I can't recall any other Nintendo device I've owned having an instruction book this big.

I like the weight of this thing, it's nice! And the music is vibrating the top screen. :S

OK... WOW, that Nintendo 3DS test they did was WEIRD! :eek: Blah, I'll ramble more later, but not like it matters. :)

If this thing had a GBA slot, I would have traded in my DS. Anyways, the 3D is a trip -- at least the rotating menu scre, but I wouldn't use it while moving.

I only picked up Pilot Wings, so going to give it a try.

Why does this thing have a gyro scope, if shifting the screen slightly kills the 3D effect? Anyways, I'm glad I can turn it off, but it's cool when the screen is just right. I'm just moving my 3DS too much with this game I guess.

One last ramble for now. I don't like the gloss finish and how it feels! I didn't this on my DS Lite. Why can't they release a matte finish? The original DS was matte an my wife's red and black DS has a matte bottom.

Having read through the science on this now...we'll this is pretty interesting.

The main hurdle appears to be the actual application of this into some type of consumer device...and that being cost effective at the end of the day.

If this works out..yea, we are talking about some major changes....

Yeah, completed without a hitch. All in all took 20-25 minutes which I thought was rather impressive! I think I'm finally finished with getting Leopard on my Mac Pro and getting everything nice and dandy. Installing it on the iBook took *forever* but I was doing an upgrade on that one.

You'd rather USB 3 than Thunderbolt? Why would you want a slower IO rather than a freaking awesome super duper fast IO? Not sure why everyone wants USB 3 rather than Thunderbolt- hype? And don't give me it's gonna be the next FW BS.

Probably because you can actually buy devices with USB 3.0, and at a reasonable price.

I think Thunderbolt is a great idea, and it would be super on the MacBook Air (personally I'd love to see a Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter), which is why I named it in the above list, but USB 3.0 is much more widespread and so the peripherals are cheaper.

Compare it to FireWire 800 devices: It would have been great to have an external drive with that connection but I never bought one because in the end it was too much of a price difference. It's a lot easier to put up with USB 2 speeds if it costs 40% less than FW800.

I hope Apple and intel will push Thunderbolt agressively and won't let it become a niche port like the way FW800 ended up. So yes, I do think there is a high risk of it becoming the next firewire.

Personally I'd prefer both but I don't see it happening in the next MBA, not until intel integrates it in their chipset.

Hope some of you guys will make it to the annual Macrumors London Picnic, usually in July or so. :)

EF-S lenses are EF mount lenses that have a smaller element in the rear of the lens that works ONLY on 1.6 crop sensor EF-S Canon cameras. With this design, the glass elements can be smaller and lighter than their EF counterparts, but are only compatible with the 1.6 crop sensor cameras. Design wise, the rear element is placed closer to the sensor than EF lenses.

DO NOT use an EF-S lens on a 1.3 crop sensor (1D series cameras) or on a Full Frame 1.0 sensor (1Ds or 5D series cameras), as the rear element of the lens will interfere with the operation of the reflex mirror and may/ will cause damage to your camera.

To the previous post about focal lengths, the difference in perceived focal length comes into account when you factor in the 1.6 cropped sensor. Since the sensor is physically smaller than a Full Frame or 1.3 crop sensor, it is essentially taking the image from the center portion of the lens.

So, you WILL get different focal lengths from 2 identically marked lenses where one is an EF-S lens and the other is an EF lens.

Whoever advised them to not put the maps onboard and download as needed, needs to be fired- poor decision.

That brain dead decision has elevated their products usefulness to that of Google Maps. Maybe just slightly better. But from a user experience driving in the middle of nowhere and then coming into an area where you need street date etc. ...that design just SUCKS big time. When you need it most ...major , MAJOR FAIL.
