Diane von Furstenberg took the trends for this season; reds and blacks, vivid blues and teals, an overall sense of glamour and luxury, and interpreted them through the DVF lens. It's, as usual, an urban sort of chic with a touch of the international and more than a touch of disco. DVF says the inspiration for this collection was "American legends" such as Millicent Rogers, Gloria Vanderbilt, Diana Vreeland, and Nancy Cunard; and she interpreted that through gaucho-inspired looks, with the requisite cropped pants, bolero hats, and even fringe suede boots. There's an appealing range here as the looks go from sporty separates and prints to stunning sequined evening gowns in brilliant red and blue that evoke the very best of eighties fashion. It's got that overall DVF breezy chicness, and it feels a little fresher and more "of the moment" than her recent collections.
