Let's do this thing!

Annette Bening in Naeem Khan Fall 2011

We're suckers for little sleeves on a gown and right now we're loving all the pewter metallics out there, so this dress played right to our particular tastes. We think she looks amazing.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Collection

This dress was TIGHT. Not in a vulgar way, but she was being interviewed and the camera panned down, and all we could think was how she can't take any deep breaths in this thing and probably couldn't even handle a glass of water. Still, she's got the body for it. Or at least she did last night. We're thinking she's been on a donut and cheeseburger binge since about 6 am.

Yes the scoop neckline, hair, and red color all combine to say "Baywatch," but it really is a spectacular gown on her. Her hair and makeup were beautiful.

Florence Welch in Valentino Spring 2011 Couture

Lorenzo really loved this but Tom isn't sure. We both think it has a certain tea-stained romantic quality, but Tom doesn't like the super high neckline and the color combination.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection

This is a good-on-paper dress that's bad-on-Paltrow. First, that neckline doesn't work for her. Second, we don't think the dress flatters her all that much. Third, the pin-straight hair is offensive to our delicate sensibilities. Oh, and the makeup looked days old, weirdly.

Cate Blanchet in Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture

We realize this is an acquired taste and not everyone's going to love it, but that just means there are so many unenlightened people out there. We think it's a uniquely gorgeous dress and we salute her for choosing it over the many prom gowns and goddess dresses that came her way.

Celine Dion in Armani Privé

We had such a negative reaction to her when she was chatting with Seacrest that we thought it extended to the dress, but no. It was just her. She's always been such an odd duck. She looks like one of those latex Real Dolls.

Anyway, the dress, without Celine Dion in it, is pretty magnificent. Love the padded shoulders. Love the necklace.

Jennifer Hudson in Atelier Versace Spring 2008 Couture

We think this might have been slightly too boobtastic, but aside from that, she looks amazing. Sure it's poof-y and princess-y in a lot of ways and we kind of hate that, but she's earned the right to show off the new bod to her heart's content and she chose a stylish way to do it.

Hilary Swank in Gucci

Love the ombre effect with the maribou feathers, but aside from that, this was standard. We thought she looked a little severe.

Michelle Williams in Chanel Spring 2011 Couture [Modified Version]

She was unbelievably striking in this. This is a "every eye in the room on me" dress and it was well- chosen, because it accomplishes that goal while being a little quiet about it. It doesn't scream "LOOK AT ME!" It doesn't have to. You're already looking at her. Hair and makeup: flawless.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa Resort 2011 [Modified Version]

Totally adorable. She apparently consulted with Marchesa on the dress and it looks like the kind of sweet, slightly princess-y look that is made to order for such a young girl on her first Oscars night. Love the headband - and we normally hate headbands. Then again, we normally hate princess dresses too, but this is all so right for her.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Spring 2011 Couture

Lorenzo loved this more than Tom, who wasn't sold on the color or all the frippery, which gave it an '80s prom feel. Lorenzo thinks it's dramatic and feminine and very of the moment. We're both agreed that it was one of the most attention-getting of the night's dresses.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

She hasn't looked comfortable in a while, but this dress seems to have done the trick. Love the color on her, as well as the neckline. Hate the matchy shoes and truly horrific "Chinatown gift shop" earrings. Not real crazy about the hair, either. Well, at least the dress works. And that's surprising since she reportedly chose it at the very last second over the Dior dress she was going to wear. She's the face of Dior right now, but the other face of Dior, John Galliano, is getting arrested in Paris for picking fights and making anti-Semitic remarks, so she fell back on her old friends at Rodarte.

Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior Spring 2009 Couture

Nicole, you should know better. This is not a dress for mortal women. This is a dress for models.

She could barely move in this thing, and it was heavy and unflattering. What a disappointment; she's been doing so well lately. And honey, we thought you were done with washing yourself out on the RC. Color, darling! It's your friend.

Reese Witherspoon in Giorgio Armani

It's a little "Pilgrim Barbie," and we are inclined to be vicious because we just can't stand her, but dammit, she looks really good. Love the Valley of the Dolls hair.

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

We thought the skirt looked a little tight and was pulling on her, and we also thought that bodice looked a skosh too low and she was probably yanking it up all night, but she looks lovely aside from that. It's a great color on her, a dramatic silhouette, and we loved the chunky hair. That dark red baguette was an interesting choice. We think we love it. Very simple (almost nonexistent) jewelry was the way to go here. Then again, the jewelry was very toned down across the board last night.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier Spring 2011

This picture isn't doing it justice. On camera, she looked beautiful; very shimmery and ethereal. Her hair looks a little severe here, but we seem to recall liking that on camera too. Then again, anyone looks good standing next to Ryan Seacrest.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce & Gabbana

We're not inclined to like lace, so there's a strike against this from the start. However, we really like the colors here. We also think the silhouette flatters the hell out of her and we kind of love the hair and makeup, which is sexy and dramatic, without being too much. We also like that she didn't do much with jewelry, since the dress is focus-pulling enough without it.
