Initial things I have noticed where L3 has the edge over A3:

� Lens correction. I am an UWA junky, especially during the reception on the dancefloor. Being able to apply a preset correction to all my UWA shots is a godsend.
� NOISE! I did some side by side comparisons of the noise removal tools, and L3 blows it out of the water. ESPECIALLY in darker OOF areas.
� Consistency. L3 "just works" as far as I can tell.
� I hate having my raw files constrained in a "Library" file in A3. Love the desktop hierarchy system in L3.

Hmm I don't have my RAWs in a Library at all in Aperture... as a matter of fact most of the time mine aren't even connected or online. Noise I have to give you... that is true.

GHood luck with LR. I tried twice to move to LR..no luck. While it has some compelling features, the whole layout is just fubared and with the price that A3 costs plus ptlens and noise ninja you get better tools that LR at a lower price :).. that is if you buy it, which most people dont :)

Some one from some little European country kept daring me to try and catch up to them.

Wow, it looks great! Just a quick note, the 17" PB should be 100 GB, not 10 GB.

Hi all,

I invested in a D5000 about a year and a half ago to begin a new hobby. I was hoping to get opinions on if it would be worth it to try to make photography more than a hobby for me. I prefer nature, but would be willing to go for events maybe...I don't want to do portraits.

I'm a sucker for a good sunset shot, and I like the first here quit a bit. The colors and textures in the sky give it a good feel. It's a pity the sun is on the centerline, though. I tends to capture the eye because it is the brightest area of the photo. If it was a little off center I might like it even more.

The photo of the Cheetahs has a lot of potential. I like where they are placed in the frame, and the direction of their heads is a nice contrast to the flow of their bodies. Kind of moves right then left with their vision. I would like the colors of the grass to be a bit deeper. The exposure is a bit light for the shadows and that lets the sunlit area in the background go too bright.

The other two are nice vacation pics, but they don't stir me visually.

I have no problem with the red i4, rather like it as a matter of fact. The rest of the phone is the most hideous looking thing I have ever seen.

You need to make yourself a custom firmware first using pwnage tool. In pwnage tool select install cydia and select no baseband update.

Then get redsn0w and put the phone in pwned DFU mode.

Then you can do a option key plus click the restore button in itunes, browse to the custom restore you made and start your restore.

When done the phone already has cydia loaded.

I've been searching and searching, but I'm unable to find anyone else that offers One To One. Both Amazon and MacConnection say that I can only purchase it through Apple.

I thought about buying my computer through MacConnetion and then getting the 1to1 service with Apple, but it has to be purchased at the same time as my iMac.

The real reason for me not wanting to get the iMac from Apple and instead getting it from Amazon, MacConnect or whoever else is because I'll save about $250 in sales tax here in California.

I contacted MacConnection and they said that I would need to buy it from Apple and only Apple, is this true? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Not being to familiar with the console I've been using InCrease that works really fast and stays in the background. It even keeps running after I log out at the end of the day (at work) or night (at home) I just recently installed it on my new G5 X-serve (dual 2.3 ghz 520gb mirrored drives with 4gb RAM) and it's doing 50-60point GROMACs in about 7 to 8 hours each, well 2 at a time so I'm crunching about 100 points in 8 hours with it.

15K PPD? Would you care to explain? With the new version of VMware 3.0 I can get it to do 8000 to 9000PPD on two 4 Core instances....

On my 17" the two updates made a notable improvement in perceived speed.

This is simply not accurate I'm afraid.
The 27" ACD works absolutely fine with the Apple OEM 5770 upgrade card with MDP, also with the 5870. After all, why would Apple sell these graphic cards if they didn't work with their only display? Further, my 5870 and 27" ACD get along like a house on fire. Note that you have to buy the Apple cards, not just a standard PC card like you seem to be implying

The first generation of ATI 5-series cards for PC didn't actually didn't follow the DisplayPort port specifications properly, and do have compatability issues with Apple products. That being said, your absolutely right peskaa, the issues were fixed with Apple OEM cards (but ppl who want to throw in any PC card just beware the 5- series cards are hit and miss on compatibility).

A big problem with the big megapixels is the amount of storage they take on your phone. You cannot adjust the megapixel size down with a phone camera like you can with a point & shoot camera. A 16 megapixel camera in a phone will not give you a better picture than a 5 megapixel camera in a phone. A phone just does not have the room to install a quality sensor.

Exactly, re: sensors. The amount of electricity-induced noise on a small 16MP sensor for a cell camera is going to render images fairly useless at large sizes (even 8.5x11 would doubtlessly require a lot of cleanup work.) For practical purposes, it may as well remain a 3MP sensor...

1 to 1 is only offered at Apple stores or online. I've worked for Apple for years so I would know.

And yes, you can technically purchase it within 14 days, but when you go in the staff will do their best to get you to get it the same day.

Oh I totally agree - the specialists will do anything to get you to buy 1to1 with the macs...helps with their metrics.

Here's an idea..go to the store and find a random customer buying a mac - give him/her 100$ to buy a 1to1 for you. Each customer can buy up to 5 1to1s, so you should be good.

Otherwise, make something up and I'm sure the manager will allow it because even standalone 1to1s help the store's overall metrics.

honestly, it feels like Lion is more of an experiment then an actual upgrade. Maybe preparing not just for the future of IOS but Mac OS to.

Open the Console.app in the Utilities folder. Bring up the context menu on each log listed on the left hand side and hit Reveal in Finder. It is perfectly safe to delete them all. Yes those logs will get MASSIVE. Afterward you should empty the Trash.

I check Amazon. The 4GB can really only be found with the bundle. You can get a stand alone 250 gig system.
