Billionaire fashionista Jessica Simpson is putting her knowledge on style to good use: The somewhat-retired pop star has been tipped to mentor aspiring designers on Fashion Star, a new NBC reality series hosted by ex-supermodel Elle Macpherson, the network said Monday.
The news comes just a few weeks after Jessica missed out on an opportunity to sit on the judges’ panel of FOX’s eagerly-awaited new talent show, The X Factor. Instead, Simpson will help guide aspiring style mavens as they compete for a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their own brand. Since taking a break from the music scene, Jess, now 30, has amassed a fortune with her Jessica Simpson by Jessica Simpson lifestyle brand. The line includes nearly two-dozen products — such as handbags, swimwear, and footwear — that have earned over $1 billion in revenue. Earlier this month, Simpson announced plans to collaborate with younger sister Ashlee on a tween clothing line launching this fall.
A debut date for Fashion Star has not been announced, but The Peacock NBC promises a “true spectacle” that wll taped in front of a studio audience, featuring music, dancers and models along with weekly challenges for the contestants.
