Jessica Simpson has signed up as mentor to aspiring designer contestants on NBC's new reality show 'Fashion Star.' Elle McPherson will host the show. The weekly series will follow 14 designers competing to win a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their own brand, and Jessica will play guide to them. The 30-year-old entertainer established her credentials as a fashionista by successfully launching her fashion and lifestyle brand in 2007, titled Jessica Simpson Collection. The collection has 22 product categories including denims, sportswear, watches, shoes, bags and fragrances. Jessica made bank with $750 million in retail sales in the year 2010 alone. She is expected to reach the $1 billion mark in 2011, according to WWD. The show is produced by the original Project Runway producers - NBC executive Ben Silverman, and Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz of Magical Elves. Heidi Klum hosted Project Runway series moved to Lifetime due to some legal issues that cropped up. NBC is yet to announce the launch date for the show. Jessica is expanding her fashion empire by collaborating with her sister Ashlee Simpson to add a new tween clothing line to the Jessica Simpson Collection.
