What is pissing me off at this stage is not that the console launches tomorrow or fears over shortages etc, it's the fact that 95% of the launch titles haven't even made it to review which is never a good sign.

I suspect we are going to see a lot of turkeys tomorrow.

I could only dream about the "high" US Prices here in Germany. We pay about 1,50 € (2,09 $)/ Liter 98. That is around 5,70 € (7,95 $) / US Gallon. 3 weeks ago it was almost 10cent/liter higher though, so I call myself lucky.

Do these devices need to access anything on your LAN, or do they just need Internet access ?

If they need LAN access, then if you're thinking about just using mac address filtering for them, then why bother with WPA2e for the rest ?

If they just need Internet access, then use a different SSID connected to a VLAN that only has Internet access, obviously with suitable firewall rules in place.

I tend to suggest using a wired connection for anything that doesn't support wireless at the required security level, and if it only supports wireless at a level that doesn't meet the required security level, then I wouldn't purchase it.

How can something like this be for "some phones?" Doesn't make much sense to me--seems more likely to be a problem with the carrier--mine did fine figuring out it was now daylight savings time. :confused:

If you turn off 3G, do you get the correct time?

I haven't tried that yet, but I did turn off my automatic time and it went to the correct time then I turned it back on (thinking that it would re-sync) but it didn't.

Well I have power cycled my phone now and it switched to the right time after it connected into the network, but has since fell back an hour.

I can see it now...

"The .Mac update broke Cage Fighter!!" or more importantly -- "Does Cage Fighter work with this release?!"

Single source hardware is an asset to server reliability, not a detriment. Compare linux uptimes to AIX, Solaris, or HPUX, and there's no contest. Having 1 company on the hook for everything helps make things run way more smoothly. The trend towards linux in the data center is a detriment that mirrors wall street, with short term costs overruling long term benefit.

That's debatable. Apple's reputation in business/enterprise support has never been stellar. Meanwhile, Google literally Velcro together their server farms, using cheap hardware that is vulnerable to failure at single points but is collectively resilient and efficient.

These are extreme ends of the spectrum that I'm using as examples, though.

I have to disagree with a lot of what you say, as you're looking it at (as you would, working in IT) from a purely technical point of view. Marketing does not work that way. What did Budweiser do? They made themselves the "fresh" beer, as all their beer would be on the shelves within 24 hours of leaving their factories. However, every single company does exactly the same thing - only you don't realise it. The mistake people make with these adverts is that they look at them, knowing the technical side of things, and wish they were present. When was the last time you saw a car advert that purely focused on the selling points? No longer are products being sold for their features, but for their story and lifestyle offering.

When IT experts criticise the campaigns, they're erroneously doing so - because they're not the target audience and never will be. When you read it in the New York Times, or an IT specialist magazine, then you'll read all about specs, performance and so on, but not on TV.

The adverts have resulted in a lot of media attention, so are they successful in that respect? I don't know, but the more people aware of your product, the more potential customers you have. It's like direct mail - if you hit them once, there's a very high chance they'll forget you, but if you follow it up with an e-mail, and then phone them, your conversion rate is greatly increased. If Apple follow-up these adverts with more, and then ultimately demonstrate other aspects of switching, it might prove incredibly successful.

Woah... I would partition a 2TB SHXC card and use 1TB for Time Machine and the other half for Final Cut Pro! On freaking 3 square centimeters!
