I wonder who the ringmaster will be?
Not that it matters, they all are trained in the art of smoke & mirrors.
右)Laura Slade WigginsInteresting concept, but their website (http://www.eneco.com/) scares me away in a hurry. What was that about making a good first impression?
What is wrong with it? The only thing I see is that they are presenting the Peltier Effect as if it was something they discovered and not already in common use. These chips have been produced on an industrial scale for many years. They don't say this.
Here is another company who has a real product to for sale http://www.melcor.com/ Here is one more - http://www.customthermoelectric.com/ It's a mature technology These guys at eneco seem to be selling a concept and have no product.
But who are they trying to fool? Anyone in a position to buy from eneco would have engineers on staff who certainly would already understand thermoelectrics
to laura slade wigginsIs it possible that 4.2.6 and 4.3 have different DST settings? Sure. Unlikely? You bet. Odds are we're seeing an issue with carriers and it localized in spots.
My work phone is with Sprint (WinMo), and it adjusted two hours forward.
Laura WigginsYes, but your point was that Apple will fail like other manufactures if they introduce different form factors. That isn't the case with the iPod selection.
Your point doesn't really hold much ground.
I think it does, all other manufactures are spitting out models every month and Apple has two models that they sell every year and they sell more then these other manufactures. Why change that? Can Apple succeeded at selling more models when nobody else can?
more...Slade GalleryI just want to adress the part of not being a jack of all trades.
The idea of sticking to one type of photography is an old fashioned one. It was true merely 7-10 years ago and still true for those who are already established niche photographers.
For new young guys trying to get a foot in, you must not believe that you are so good that you can just start a business and then only do high fashion, expensive weddings or top dollar advertising. You have to be able to do all! Why? Because there are so many photographers and wanna-bes these days and they all compete by tearing down the prices... lower prices = need to do more to earn a living, and my guess is that if you're not already established... you cannot choose to work niche photography.
Fortunately for myself I have a full time job doing food and warehouse merchandise photography... but since I want to do creative work as well, I'm picking up small jobs on the side like model tests, portraits of artist friends and music videos... let me tell you what I was paid for my last video job:
$375, full days work from 7 - 20
Thats almost not enough to pay the rent of the gear if I had to rent it.
So stop the illusion of being special, and accept that is reserve for the very few. If you want to make a living taking pictures, jack of all is the way to go...
www.legreve.com
Ps. One niche that Is nice to do is working with a sinar. Not a lot of photographers know how to works those and they do a hell of a lot better at certain types of photography than any canon, nikon or hasselblad, because you can control your dof and make natural blur across a diagonal.
Laura Wiggins: Laura BI agree, except for one little thing===> HD Content distribution. No real solution for that one yet. You can't very easily d/l a 25GB HD movie. Even compressed, it's a massive freakin' file. I don't think there's a comsumer level internet connection that could support such content offerings.
I agree, but I don't have an HD TV, nor do I plan on having one any time soon, so I'm not too concerned about HD content yet. ;) But others definitely will be.
Just what can Target say? "If you allow Apple do do something that might cut into out DVD sales we will intentionally sell fewer DVD" Kind of like holding a gun to your head threatening to shoot.
I love it! :D
more...Laura Slade WigginsI've posted this before on the pic of the day thread but it is one of my favorite "contrast" shots to date.

This is a very interesting photograph. For as spooky as the dwelling looks, it has a certain inviting quality to it. It contrasts not only in color but in mood. I like it. Thanks for the explanation of the coloring; I'm surprised this was light painted!

Very nice capture. This reminds me of the lighting style used in Tron and Tron: Legacy. What might be fun is to drastically reduce your aperture / increase your f-number and do a long exposure shot of it so that it is entirely in focus. I would also center it in the frame but that could just be me.

more...Slade GalleryI hope the super secret features aren't already in the preview (or at least disabled). If they were active, I'm sure people would be saying "wow that's a cool new feature!" Since I haven't heard any of that, and the secret stuff is active, then I guess Apple's making a mountain out of a molehill.

It appears that a deal has been made.
Yeah, CNN, NYT and Politico are all reporting a short term deal has been made.
How gracious of Boehner.

I believe "っオ、iPod、何聞いてる" should be "っオ、iPod、何聴いてる"
You had "What are you hearing?" rather than "What are you listening to?"
:D
Hey, thanks. Yep, I think you're right too. Probably why I always fail my 2級.

I think to dictate what people should or shouldn't do with their machines is silly. Search the forums and the internet. The Air has proven to be plenty capable as a gaming machine for it's size and has many satisfied users talking about it.
I'm saying that's my personal opinion. I know it's capable of playing games, but many people are disappointed about something that no one knows except maybe Apple or Intel.
A computer is certainly a tool, but it can also be a gaming machine, a home theater pc, an entertainment hub, etc.; whatever a user may find use for it for.
Obviously, certain machines are better and worse at certain functions than others, but don't forget that this generation of MBA, there are people that actually did go out and buy the Air because one of the reasons is that it did happen to be a decent performer in games, while remaining ultra portable. In this case, I think the Air strikes an excellent balance between function and form.
Really? So if I buy a MBA, using your logic above, then one of the reasons I bought it was because it could play games. This is your opinion, your view of why some people buy a MBA. Just like what I said in my previous post was purely my personal opinion. Not dictation of anything. I'm sure many people agree with you and some that don't.
I use my Air for live music sets and this is exactly a scenario where such a BL KB would be grand. I read similar opinions from other musicians on this forum in another thread. Creative artists like live musicians can definitely find appropriate use for a backlit kb, but even average everyday users who don't share the same skill level as you would also benefit from it. If anything, adding convenience is always a welcome.
If you don't want or need the backlit kb, then you could always turn it off. It's there for people who might need it. Win-win situation.
That's you. I simply stated how I personally use my computer. It's different for everybody. Not everybody is like me or you. Not everyone is a musician or creative artist. Of course, the backlit keyboard is a welcome addition. I never said anything against that.

I once sat on a plane next to an intellectual property lawyer who was commuting to NYC for work from Rochester. As it turned out he had once worked for EK and was now working in the city.
When I conveyed my surprised over how strange it was that Eastman Kodak was lagging behind in digital imaging and still focused on film considering they were responsible for much of the technology behind digital imaging, he basically inferred that EK's leadership mismanaged their patent goldmine.
They mismanaged more than their patents! They were a sinking ship and the captain had his fingers crossed and eyes closed in the 90's and early 2000's. Too little too late.

You Americans got it lucky, petrol here in the UK is about 5.15 per gallon, or $8.30.
I disagree. Europe has public transportation that is centuries ahead of the USA. Gas is $3.79 here in mid Missouri.

Since this is Zune launch day:
Seeing as apple now has a majority of auto makers making connectivity and now the airline industry is getting on board, this is a major blow to the Zune. Neither cars nor airplanes will come with every connection possible so that any media player can be used. This is a great step for apple and potential apple customers.
How about a built-in mag safe connector for the airplanes too? :)
I'm sure that a 3rd party adaptor will appear to connect an iPod dock connector to whatever kind of connector the Zune ends up using...
Still this will give the iPod one more feather in its cap. I'm certainly thrilled by this news, and I think it makes the idea of a video iPod much more appealing. In general, I've taken the stance that if I'm going to watch a video on a plane, I'd rather watch it on my PB's large screen. The iPod screen is just too small. But if I could watch it on the plane's screen, that would make the iPod a viable alternative.
This would also eliminate one of my pet-peeves about the in-flight entertainment. Ever since airlines (i.e. JetBlue) have started offering TV, there's been a slight problem. When the captain comes on, it mutes the sound of the TV, but doesn't pause it, or anything like that. The last flight I was on, I was watching a drama, and at a pivotal plot moment the captain came on with "Hello, ladies and gentleman, this is your captain.... if you look out the right side of the plane you can see...". He droned on for several minutes while I watched two people talking to each other, resolving a plot point. I had no idea what they were saying (not being a very good lip reader), and I was furious! It would have been one thing if he was coming on to give us some important information, but he was just simply giving one of those "up here at 35000 feet the air is really cold" speeches, and he could NOT have picked a worse time to do it, as far as the program I was watching. Now, if I had been watching something on an iPod, I could have paused while he was talking, or rewound after he was through. (I expect if it's going through the plane's system it would still mute out whatever I was watching in favor of the captain's voice.)
definitely a lot of switchers in my book. I know at least 5 friends who have switched in the past year, and 3 more (including myself) who will be switching by the end of the year :p
