Do any of you guys use pitchfork.com to read reviews on new and upcoming music?
I find their reviews don't really contrast well with my opinion of the album but I use it to find new CDs I might never hear of otherwise. I've found some amazing albums on there that would have slipped through the cracks of all this contemporary ********* on the radio.
Jim ParsonsSo H.264 is a very compressed format. That sets off a flag right there. Ideally you wouldn't be provided footage in such a lossy format.
Taking the H.264 footage and converting it to DV NTSC is essentially compressing it again (albeit a lesser compression), but it is still increasing the generation count. Instead, I would try throwing it into compressor and transcoding to apple prores 422. That should hopefully alleviate any loss of quality.
But sadly we don't live in an ideal world :) And this is footage given out for television usage, believe it or not...(do CBS Sunday Morning and the Today Show really like getting footage in compressed h.264?)
I'll try prores 422. My thought was that as the the other footage is DVPro NTSC converting it to DV NTSC would be transcoding to a closely matching format. But it didn't seem to help any...

#39;Big Bang#39; star Jim ParsonsHow do I re-setup it? The problem seems to be that it can't find any networks anymore. The reception is zero.
After you remove the preferences per MJ's suggestion, and check all your connections and it still doesn't work, then reset your Airport to it's original settings.
After you reset your Airport, then use the utility Airport Setup Assistant in your UTILITIES folder under your APPLICATIONS folder.
They should be able to find each other then.

I have a 17" iMac G4 that I am looking to sell.
The specs are:
17" screen
1.25 ghz
768 meg of ram
80 gig hard drive
Superdrive
FX 5200 video card
OSX Panther edition w/ discs
Apple Pro keyboard, mouse, and speakers
Couple of games as well.
The computer is in excellent condition. I bought in mid September of 2003. I have never sold anything on ebay so I have no supporting seller bona fides. I live in NC and would prefer to sell here and would hand deliver. However, I will ship anywhere in US. I will post pics when I get back home (I am work right now).

I heard that the Special Red Edition iPhone 3G Pro will be released soon, if so, will it be 16GB or 32GB? Or, it will have both formats? Will you get this special version instead of a black or white one?
I believe the iPhone would never work as a "Product (red)" seeing as all "Product (red)" products are not for profit. Just like you'll never see a (red) Macbook. It's just too valuable to be for charity, sad ... But true.

I think I would wait, or just use the toothpaste.
My uncle works for a company that sells dental implants (nasty stuff!) and feels that the bleaching degrades the dentin significantly. I've checked around with a few people at my company (we sell dental products to dentists) and there is no consensus as to whether it is damaging or not.
Unless you can find some studies by the ADA or another organisation, I would not try anything too extreme.
Jim Parsons Amp Todd SpiewakIn 4 years, I have read zero accounts of an actual bricking. I have however, read countless overly dramatic stories of botched jailbreaks requiring a simple restore. People over/mis use the word brick almost as much as "fail".

This is my main concern: If I run a stream from a cable modem or fios provider to the website, and there are let's say 200 people on, wouldn't that pretty much choke the internet connection that's being used for the camera? I was wondering if there's some way to have the stream go to my web host and then maybe have people use their bandwidth. Kind of like streaming to Justin.tv where they act as the middle man so that your bandwidth isn't used up when more than one person is watching the stream.

Importing from Europe would be even more interesting. But I'm not sure that most of the cars built for their consumption meet U.S. emissions and crash testing standards. Therefore, obtaining registration would probably be unduly difficult.
Of course, if you want to drive your diesel on a private race track, or just up and down your driveway (read: off of public thoroughfares), you'll have no trouble whatsover.

Reporting back for anyone who cares - the banner brought $220 on eBay. Best of all, the shipping address of the buyer was 1 Infinite Loop! :D
The poster is for sale now. We'll see how it does.

Yes, I did the same for my flatmate's 1st gen MacBook whose drive is also bust.
I'm not sure if this can be done without any problems.
Ok so here is plan B in effect:
Got the retail disc on the way, going to erase my flash drive and put the retail image on that drive. Once I boot from it I'll erase the 1,1's HDD and do a clean install.
Hopefully that works.
I want to thank everyone for their input so far it's been very helpful.
more...Jim Parsons Todd SpiewakI started folding with the G5 home computer for several reasons. First, I leave my computer on most of the time and really like the idea that for pennies I can have an application working on something useful for other people. Since I work in...<gasp>...IT, I also like the idea that processor time there is serving some higher cause.
I also lost a family member to cancer, so there is some small motivation there to see if some cumulative work will help in the understanding of these diseases -- though mortality is part of living....
Another reason? To contribute to the MacRumors Team (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446) effort and earn props for the team.

I would kinda like to find a website where flame wars were cherished, trolls were honored, and bitter insults were extolled.
Of course, I appreciate and enjoy the close community that has formed here too much to want MacRumors to be that site, but I would like my occassional craving for flaming to be satisfied somewhere.
http://www.adequacy.org/ !
And, as much as I hate to say it, http://www.kuro5hin.org/ is full of jerkish trolls. *sigh*
PS: What do you have against Best Buy?
Jim Parsons Amp Todd SpiewakI am a Apple Fan boy through n through. Well i like to call myself the MAC daddy haha!
I have just come across the mac mini server. I want it!!! But not sure it can replace my current set up.
In my garage, i have a Dell 390 workstation with 4 TB of space. I manily use this to keep all my movies, music, and media on. I stream my movies from it via shared drives to my WD TV Live box. Which i love... I use programs like, Vuse / Handbrake actually they are the most common apps i use. Eventually id like to be able to back up my external drives from my imac to the server.
Just wondering if the mac mini server could replace that. As the Dell is power hungry, large and just plain ugly. But it does have 4TB worth of space.
Could the mac mini replace this setup, and if so how?

Verizon iphone has no airplay ?
Wow that sucks
You know the screen is 27" diagonal, and you know the width, so the height of the screen is the third side of the triangle.
Hmm, nobody likey???
I don't care for kickstand cases in general. I like the concept, but it seems a little bulky...
